DEFINITION

What is grounded outbound?

The definition

Grounded outbound means every factual claim in a draft traces to a source you can click, and anything the engine inferred rather than found is labeled as inferred. Claims that cannot cite a source are blocked before a rep ever sees them, so the rep is never the last line of fact-checking.

Grounded is not the same as personalized

These two get used interchangeably and they describe different properties. Personalization is how specific the message looks. Grounding is whether the specifics are true and checkable. A tool can be extremely personalized and completely ungrounded, which is how "personalized at scale" still produces confident nonsense.

The one question that tells you if a tool is grounded

Ask what happens when the research comes back empty. An ungrounded tool still writes a confident paragraph, because producing text is the only thing it can do, and a missing fact is indistinguishable to it from a present one. A grounded tool drops the claim, or refuses the draft. Everything else about a vendor's grounding story follows from the answer to that question, and it is rarely the thing on the marketing page.

The follow-up is to ask to see a draft next to its sources. If the sources cannot be shown per claim, they were not used per claim.

Common questions

What is grounded outbound?+

Grounded outbound means every factual claim in a draft traces to a source you can click, and anything the engine inferred rather than found is labeled as inferred. Claims that cannot cite a source are blocked before a rep ever sees them, so the rep is never the last line of fact-checking.

How is grounded different from personalized?+

Personalization is about how specific the message looks. Grounding is about whether the specifics are true and checkable. A tool can be highly personalized and completely ungrounded: it merges a real company name into a sentence asserting a funding round that never happened. Grounding is the property that the assertion had to come from somewhere before it was allowed into the draft.

Why does it matter whether the AI cites a source?+

Because the cost of a wrong claim lands on you, not the vendor. A cold email that misstates a prospect's funding, headcount, or tech stack does not just fail to convert, it tells the reader you did not check, which is worse than not writing. At volume it also puts your sending domain at risk, and the domain is not something you can quickly replace. A citation is what makes a claim auditable before it goes out rather than after.

How do I tell if a tool is actually grounded?+

Ask to see a draft next to its sources, and ask what happens when the research comes back empty. An ungrounded tool will still produce a confident paragraph, because generating text is the only thing it can do. A grounded one will drop the claim or refuse the draft. The second question is the one that separates them, and the honest answer to it is rarely on the marketing page.

Does grounding make outbound slower?+

It adds a research step per prospect, which costs time and tokens. What it removes is the review burden that ungrounded drafting pushes onto the rep, who otherwise has to fact-check every sentence or send unchecked. In practice the constraint on outbound is rarely how fast copy can be produced; it is how much of it a human is willing to put their name on.

Is grounded outbound the same as an AI SDR?+

No, close to the opposite. The autonomous AI SDR category sent ungrounded mail at volume with no human in the loop, and buyers stopped trusting it. Grounded outbound keeps the human as the approver: the engine researches, drafts from evidence, and shows its sources, and the rep decides what sends. The AI does the work that does not need judgment, and stops where judgment starts.

How does SealDeal do it?+

Every prospect is researched before anything is written, drafts are generated only from that evidence, and a guardrail pass rejects output whose claims do not cite a source. Anything the engine inferred rather than found is labeled as inferred. Nothing sends without a rep approving it, and it sends from your own mailbox under your own domain. Whether it works better than what you do today is a separate question, which is what the holdout is for.

SealDeal is pre-launch. This page defines a term and describes how the product works; it claims no measured result, and there is no case study or customer count to quote.
